Plenty of groove to kick off the Bilbao Blues Festival
For more than 20 years (they formed in 2004), Bilbao-based band The Cherry Boppers have been champions of black music genres such as rhythm & blues, funk, soul and jazz, and they will be opening the 5th edition of the Bilbao Blues Festival. The alliance between the experienced instrumental group and vocalist Patricia Reckless has given rise to the project ‘The Cherry Boppers meet Patricia Reckless’, in which, in their latest work recorded in 2024, they approach powerful soul-funk rhythms and display an energetic live performance that invites you to dance non-stop. The groove is guaranteed!
The Cherry Boppers’ career includes multiple albums and hundreds of concerts and performances in Spain and in countries such as France, Germany, Scotland and the Netherlands. Highlights include the Jazzaldia in San Sebastián, opening for ‘Sly and the Family Stone’, the Imagina Funk festival, the Edinburgh Jazz-Blues Festival, the Paradiso Club in Amsterdam and the Olympia Park in Munich.
For her part, Bilbao-born Patricia Reckless, member of the duo Bohemian Soul, boasts a suggestive and powerful voice that blends perfectly with the powerful rhythmic pulse of The Cherry Boppers. Some of her musical influences include Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse, Sharon Jones, James Brown, The Temptations and Ray Charles.
