A powerful heritage with a voice of her own<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The incombustible soul singer Martha High<\/strong> (Victoria, Virginia, 1945) will be another of the big names at the Bilbao Blues Festival. Her powerful, heartbreaking voice was “baptised” by the legendary James Brown, whom she accompanied on his tours for more than 30 years<\/strong>, being the vocalist who remained in his band for the longest time. She was with him on historic occasions: the famous Boston Garden concert in April 1968, the night after the assassination of Martin Luther King, when Brown prevented further riots with his mere stage presence and positive message, on his trip to Vietnam to entertain US troops and at the ‘Rumble In The Jungle’ concert, attended by 60,000 people, before the George Foreman-Muhammad Ali fight in Kinshasa.<\/p>\n

An eyewitness and advocate of the Motown sound, High, Martha High has a strong solo career<\/strong>, during which she has continued to spread the legacy of the “godfather of soul” in her shows. She also tours regularly as the lead vocalist for the legendary saxophonist Maceo Parker.<\/p>\n

Along with The Soul Cookers, he will be performing<\/strong> in Bilbao on Saturday 27 July with his musical heritage, which includes jazz, soul, blues and funk.<\/strong><\/p>\n
